Toads of the Bayou is a premium strategy game for PC by developer La Grange. It is a dark fantasy roguelike deck builder that centers around a group of toads who get tricked and trapped inside a dangerous swamp by a devious baron. They must now fight their way through evil forces to survive and escape. 

Much like Balatro and Knock on the Coffin Lid, Toads of the Bayou employs tactical turn-based combat and a card system to plan and strategize every action. Newcomers can try out a demo version to get a preview of what they can expect gameplay-wise. 

Of toads and swamps 

In Toads of the Bayou, you lead a group of wandering toads who are looking for a place where they can finally settle and thrive. A spirit of the dead named Baron Samedi tricks you with the promise of a new home and traps you inside a bayou where evil creatures roam. You are left with no choice but to fight to survive as you find a way to escape the deadly swamp alive. 

Form a team of three toads, each with unique traits and abilities, to take on the forces of evil, with 20 support toads to call on when things get tricky. Navigate three distinct islands as you try to survive each encounter, with the threat of permadeath looming. Fight your way through 10 boss fights to reach the end and escape once and for all. 

Collect over 50 tactical cards to create a deck to deal with various encounters and situations. There's also an old tavern you'll restore to serve as a safe shelter and a shop where you can purchase items. On another note, the game unfortunately has a few major bugs, including being unable to buy items from the shop, one that has your gold stuck at (-1), and others.

To conclude, Toads of the Bayou offers engaging and challenging tactical gameplay wrapped in a fantasy world with toads and barons. The result is a quirky yet fun experience that fans of the genre can try out. However, there are many bugs that prevent it from being enjoyable or even playable. Hopefully, these issues will be addressed as soon as possible.
