Seeking Evil: The Wendigo is a premium action released for PC by developer Copybugpaste. It is a first-person VR-compatible horror survival game set in a cursed and secluded forest in the middle of nowhere. In it, players find themselves stranded in a mysterious jungle home to a deadly and savage creature.

Just like The Forest and Green Hell, Seeking Evil: The Wendigo features a tropical setting and takes inspiration from native legends and folklore for its narrative. The perspective in addition to a VR headset also plays a role in the gameplay experience, making it that much more immersive overall.

Primal fear

In Seeking Evil: The Wendigo, you find yourself stranded in a mysterious and creepy forest somewhere in North America. Stories of this place tell the legend of The Wendigo, a cursed predatory creature that craves the flesh of humans and relishes in devouring its victims alive. The only way to survive is to break the curse while trying to avoid a direct confrontation with the deadly stalking beast.

You need to burn multiple totems scattered throughout the forest, and your Ank will help you locate them. The more of these artifacts you set aflame, the more intense the situation gets as The Wendigo becomes more rabid, becoming ever-sensitive to your presence and slowly closing in on your scent—it's a balancing act of swiftness and caution as you move from one point to another.

You can play this game in the traditional way, with a keyboard and mouse combo. As mentioned earlier, though, it supports VR gameplay with compatible headsets, such as the Vive, Index, or Rift. Speaking of virtual reality, the overall experience of playing this way is less than ideal, even on machines with good specifications and hardware. The performance needs more optimizations to get smooth gameplay.

Fear the creature

If you like survival horror games and own a capable PC and VR headset, Seeking Evil: The Wendigo is a release that is worth checking out. The story is intriguing and the gameplay itself is quite engaging and terrifying. The VR performance, in particular, is not that great, but hopefully gets addressed and fixed in an update soon. Nevertheless, this one gets a recommendation.
