The latest in the Orcs Must Die! series
Orcs Must Die! 3 is a premium action game for PC developed by Robot Entertainment. It is the third installment in the popular third-person tower defense series of games, Orcs Must Die! Players can expect more mayhem, with a slew of new weapons and traps at their disposal.
Compared to other titles in the genre like Defense Grid: The Awakening or Bloons TD 6, Orcs Must Die! 3 is played in a third-person perspective for a more immersive experience that places players right into the action. It also features a new story from its predecessors.
More orcs to slay
Orcs Must Die! is an award-winning game series praised for its unique take on the tower defense genre. Instead of the typical top-down perspective, it presents itself in a third-person view. What's more, its gameplay is much more involved and engaging thanks to more action-oriented combat more akin to an ARPG. Orcs Must Die! 3 takes things to new heights, with larger maps, more weapons, and a lot of orcs.
This sequel basically builds upon previous releases with more of everything, and that is not a bad thing. From more orcs to new weapons and traps, and of course, better graphics, the game has improved across the board. It also features a new story set 20 years after the events of Orcs Must Die! 2, wherein war mages and sorceresses are training a new generation of apprentices.
What's more, a new war scenarios lets you engage in a massive battle against a large orc horde looking to siege your castle. The new game mode also introduces war machines, which are basically large-scale traps ideal for defending against groups of enemies. There is two-player co-op available, but given some game balancing issues, the difficulty can ramp up quickly even if you play with a friend.
Same but better
Overall, Orcs Must Die! 3 is the most streamlined release in the series yet, making it a good entry point for beginners and newcomers. You get more orcs, weapons, and traps, but the gameplay has been simplified somewhat, which may be a good or bad thing depending on who you ask. Nevertheless, it's a fun and engaging entry to the popular tower defense franchise and worth a try.
