Katanaut is a premium action game for PC developed by Voidmaw. It is a 2D side-scrolling roguelike set in a space station descending into the depths of cosmic chaos. Players will take control of the sole survivor, a blade-wielding warrior, and they must figure out the cause of their astral predicament. 

Much like Blasphemous 2 or The Last Faith, Katanaut will have players face dark horrors in a perilous journey through fast-paced, Souls-like gameplay that will put their skills to the test. They will also explore and navigate a large labyrinthian map with hidden pathways, secrets, and treasures to discover. 

Cosmic horrors 

Katanaut is a horror roguelike adventure taking place inside a space station that has fallen into cosmic chaos, leaving its crew and former inhabitants corrupted and twisted into unimaginable monstrosities. You play as Naut, the lone survivor of this mysterious and tragic event, and you must now push forth and face these dark terrors inside a Metroidvania-like map with unknown danger lurking at every corner. 

You are particularly equipped to handle the dangers that lie ahead, with a razor-sharp katana sword to help you slash your way through waves of enemies or blast them with your trust pistol sidearm. Given your unique skill set, you will fight enemies with swift precision. You will also need to overcome all sorts of traps and platforming challenges that hinder your process. 

What's more, humanity has unlocked the technology to tap into memory fragments of the deceased to extract and download unique abilities. These shards have been spread across the station to collect and let you gain new skills that will help in your battles. Now, if all of this piques your interest, you sadly have to wait, since the game is not out yet and there is no release date either.

All in all, Katanaut serves up a distinct experience wrapped inside equally compelling cosmic horror themes. From its brutal, fast-paced combat to its Metroidvania-like exploration and curious story, there is plenty to like about this action roguelike.
