A tower defense fan-game based on The Binding of Isacc

I.RULE is a fan-made game released on a name your own price model, meaning players can contribute if they choose to, but it is essentially a free game for those who want it to be. It is a tower defense game based on the popular action RPG, The Binding of Isacc.

Being a tower defense game, I.RULE has more in common with something similar to Plants vs. Zombies than it does with The Binding of Isacc. Still, it uses the art style and some assets from The Binding of Isacc.

A tribute to a popular game

The developer of I.RULE states that the game is intended to be a tribute to The Binding of Isacc. With that being said, while the art style and themes will appeal to other fans of that game, the gameplay is sufficiently different. That means people who were not fans of The Binding of Isacc might still enjoy it.

Tower defense gameplay

The game's premise is quite simple; the player has to defend the left-hand side of the screen from attacking creatures. Defensive creatures cost a certain amount of in-game currency units, and the player must try to balance how they spend that currency. Spending too much on single units leaves parts of the screen vulnerable, but not having powerful enough defenses can see them crumble.

Good for tower defense fans

Being almost visually identical to The Binding of Isacc while changing the gameplay entirely, I.RULE is an interesting take on fan-made games. For fans of tower defense games, perhaps it is not as compelling as original games in the genre. However, fans of The Binding of Isacc, who also like tower defense games, may find this a very interesting play.
