A heart-pounding survival nightmare

Echoes of the Living is an action and survival-horror title developed by MoonGlint for PC. The game pays homage to iconic classic horror games from the 1990s, most specifically the Resident Evil franchise. It features fixed-camera angles, inventory management, limited ammo resources, and challenging puzzles to solve.

In Echoes of the Living, you step into the shoes of two protagonists to go through an undead-infested town in hopes of surviving the mysterious onslaught. The game features modern 3D visuals and a rich Original Soundtrack (OST) to fully immerse in the nightmare.

Escape the clutches of the living dead

The story of Echoes of the Living is told through the eyes of two brave protagonists, Laurel Reaves and Liam Oakwood, who both find themselves in a small European town inhabited by the undead and other mutated creatures. Like old-school survival-horror games, you must fight through hordes of zombies while solving complex puzzles and backtracking to previous areas to search for important items needed to progress forward.

This game is highly replayable, featuring two playable characters, and the campaign can be unfolded from two different perspectives. Throughout the game, you must learn how to manage your inventory, since the slots are limited. Weapons can also be upgraded to maximize firepower; however, expect to still die a lot with how scarce the ammo is, although you can use Save Rooms to reload in case of death.

The fixed camera angles can be confusing at times, as they change perspective frequently as you transition between areas—a prominent feature from way back that younger players are not used to seeing. Nonetheless, it lets you appreciate the highly detailed 3D environments and the spooky atmosphere. However, having a decent mid-range system is recommended to run this game smoothly without issues.

A return to survival-horror roots

In conclusion, Echoes of the Living is what you can call a “Resident Evil 2 clone,” since it has a lot of similarities, like two playable protagonists who both find themselves trapped in a city full of zombies. Nevertheless, it’s still a fun survival-horror game that’ll keep you hooked for hours with the gripping story, as well as the time you’ll spend backtracking and solving all those tricky puzzles.
