In Dead Engine, you must either face zombies or attempt to escape and leave the city. Zombies can track, adapt, and team together to hunt for their prey, which affects your chance of survival. In the game, every zombie encountered must be defeated.

Aside from defeating zombies, Dead Engine also incorporates camp management and base-building elements in its gameplay, as you cannot survive alone in your journey here, and you need to recruit other survivors. In this game, your camp is a living system that you need to manage by maintaining morale, hygiene, and resources in your camp. Every decision you make also affects the future of your camp. 

Moreover, despite having companions in this game, it doesn’t give you enough assurance to defeat zombies, as they also have a pathfinding system that lets them search for your position, no matter where you are hiding from them. When these zombies spot someone, they can team up together and attack you quickly. Thus, you need to plan your moves very carefully. 

Furthermore, in this game, you can try to find backpacks that can help your journey. Backpacks expand your carrying capacity, allowing you to have more items with you. Here, a well-upgraded backpack can be your key to survival. On the other hand, when it comes to the game’s visuals, it uses hand-drawn pixel art. However, note that this game is still in early access.
