Darkland is a free-to-play game that has been engineered to emulate platforms associated with early PC platforms of the 1980s. It offers a combination of nostalgic side-scrolling action alongside entirely custom-made programming. It is free to download, and thanks to the small file size, installation times are minimal.

Following recent emulators such as Soccer World Cup, which have been inspired by the iconic Commodore 64 computer, Darkland is just as suited for fans of nostalgia as it is for anyone who enjoys casual gameplay.

Resurrected from a previous iteration

Darkland was originally released in 2014. However, recent improvements, such as bug fixes, should provide users with a more seamless overall experience. Nonetheless, many prior elements (such as the color scheme and the plot) have remained the same.

A flavor of Halloween

The overall plot and digital ambiance associated with Darkland embrace a Halloween theme. The main goal is to wander through a scary environment and find monsters with the help of a flashlight. These demons can then be destroyed by shooting them with a built-in weapon.

A growing trend in emulation software

This game is intended to be accessed and played through the use of third-party C64 emulation software. Interestingly enough, it can also be directly ported onto a Commodore 64 computer if desired.

A blast from the (digital) past

Darkland is a perfect example of the recent trend of using emulation software in order to replicate games from the past. Other bundles, such as Pacman 2005, clearly illustrate that this movement is gaining popularity. However, Darkland is also a great game for anyone who enjoys straightforward tactics and spooky gameplay.
