CrossfireX is an action game developed by Smilegate Entertainment. It is a free-play game that is reminiscent of the era of competitive shooters. Here, you assume the role of either a Blacklist (terrorist) or Global Risk (anti-terrorist) mercenary and join a team to work on objective-based scenarios.

Gameplay-wise, CrossfireX offers an experience similar to Counter-Strike. The rules of engagement are simple: point, click, pray. There is no sprinting and no aiming-down sights. If you spot an enemy, you plant your feet and shoot from the hip. And unlike Call of Duty, there is no in-match economy to worry about. 

Old-school FPS

CrossfireX is a first-person shooter that offers an old-school experience. It comes with various modes and variations, but the basics involves battles between two mercenary groups called Blacklist and Global Risk. As mentioned, fans of Counter-Strike will find the similarities in the gameplay uncanny. There is even a goal to defuse or defend a bomb in one of its maps, which is a clone of the popular action shooter.

Although, unlike other FPS titles, you don't have to worry about earning money in this game. There is no in-match economy involved. With this, you can pick a new loadout whenever you want and get on with shooting down your enemies. However, while it provides an unusual amount of flexibility, it also removes the aspect of strategy. Teams tend to one-up each other constantly.

Although it pays homage to the classic shooters, this does not mean that the game does not come with smart tweaks to the conventional genre tropes. The game comes equipped with a modern mode, closer to a modern online shooter. Here, players will see an element of progression in terms of loadout and the map. Score enough points, and you can imbue your soldiers with a perk.

Is the game good?

Overall, CrossfireX is a game that will appeal to fans of old-school shooting games. It offers very familiar gameplay but with some modern tweaks. However, more than its unoriginal mechanics, the game also comes with problems that can be a deal-breaker for players. Some modes are not properly explained. There are also problems with spawn camping. Finally, it takes tweaking to get the right amount of sensitivity of the controls.
