Choice of Destiny Mod is a free-to-use game utility for the 2010 survival shooter game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. In this add-on from the SZM Team, powered by moddb, you gain access to a lot of all-new content–storyline, locations, and custom models and textures. The new mod challenges you to make your choices more carefully and tread around Pripyat with greater caution.

It adds new elements to the game, making Call of Pripyat worth another try. Aside from the Choice of Destiny Mod, you can also try the remastering from the Desolation Mod.

Extending your STALKER experience

In the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, you already had to face a massive open world, which was only the section of a fictionalized Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukraine. The game lets you roam around Pripyat, Zaton, and Yanov. With the Choice of Destiny Mod, however, you unlock a new location that is thematically consistent yet feels entirely new.

More importantly, developers of the mod provide their own spin to the haunting story of the base game. This is most visible in the section called “Hallway,” which has its own narrative and contains hints to a unique story element that serves to enrich the entire experience. Unfortunately, this remains incomplete and the level is abruptly cut off to the player.

The Hallway cut short is only the start of the problem, though. It remains largely incomplete, with the most obvious aspect being the lack of trees in the custom section of the map. There are also no traders and repairmen available, although monsters and faction members are already roaming. It gives the impression that the mod was released prematurely, although there are definitely opportunities to improve.

An unfinished mod

Choice of Destiny Mod is a promising mod that pushes the limit of the Call of Pripyat game engine. It builds a new section of the game map and even tries to build a new story aspect for players to enjoy. However, these steps are easily overshadowed by the lacking features and incomplete parts of the mod. Give it more time and it might become more playable.
