Blightstone is a premium role-playing game for PC developed by Unfinished Pixel. It takes place in a dark fantasy world under the oppression of a demon overlord possessing a dark artifact, spreading corruption across the land. Players will be tasked with transporting and safeguarding a magical crystal that is capable of defeating this great evil. 

Much like Darkest Dungeon II or Songs of Conquest, Blights features tactical turn-based battles with a diverse set of characters with unique strengths and abilities. It also boasts a distinct dark and gothic art style that complements the narrative and setting. 

Spreading corruption 

The game tells of the demon overlord Korghul, who has unleashed an evil corruption upon the land using the titular Blightstone. The only hope the world has left lies with the Earthglass Crystal, and you’re tasked with its protection as you transport it to the Infernal Rift to destroy the demonic threat and the stone itself. However, the path ahead will be filled with danger and obstacles at every turn. 

Recruit heroes and pick from five character classes, each with distinct skills and abilities to help you on your journey. Invest in expansive skill trees and create unique synergies with status effects for different types of enemies. The game allows for free movement during battles, which results in unique tactics like taking cover from attacks or using the environment to your advantage. 

Each run is procedurally generated, so no two playthroughs will be the same. Add to that the dynamic weather system and day/night cycles, where you need to be wary of dangers when dark falls, and you’ll constantly be on guard. Do note that the game is still in Early Access, hence development is ongoing, and it’s not the full experience just yet. 

Challenging unpredictability 

All in all, a simple change such as a gridless battle system makes for a vast difference in how the gameplay feels in Blightstone. It offers a good amount of flexibility with its character classes and skills, but it’s the need to constantly adapt to changes that makes it more challenging, but also fun.
