Master the odds in this strategic dice-based dungeon crawler

Dungeon Trail is a premium role-playing game that puts you in charge of a guild. In this roguelike dungeon crawler, you must assemble a specialized crew and navigate treacherous, unpredictable floors to thwart the Lord of Greed. Every room presents a fresh threat, requiring you to guide your party through dangerous corridors.

The gameplay relies on dice rolls to resolve combat, making probability just as vital as your equipment. You must decide when to deploy limited items to prevent a total party wipe. Much like Slice & Dice, Dungeon Trail focuses on managing risks and adapting to random drops.

Rolling for survival

As the Guildmaster in Dungeon Trail, you start by recruiting a party from 15 distinct class archetypes, ranging from stalwart Paladins to dark Necromancers. Your objective is simple: survive a descent through several floors of minions to defeat the final boss. Managing your team’s health is the real challenge, as the permadeath mechanics of this game make losing characters mid-run difficult to recover from.

Combat is turn-based and relies on dice rolls to determine your offensive and defensive output. To offset a bad roll, you can spend gold on "Tricks" or rerolls, effectively using your currency as a safety net. This creates a constant tension between spending gold for immediate survival or saving those funds to invest in permanent equipment upgrades that will help you later on.

During battle, the game uses clear text boxes to show you exactly how much damage a monster is about to deal, even warning you when an attack is lethal. You can also gamble your gold at altars for a chance at high-tier items. The character art itself features a retro-style anime-esque design. However, you might notice occasional lag during heavy combat sequences.

Balancing strategy with luck

Overall, Dungeon Trail offers a compelling blend of risk management and classic RPG progression. While the dice-based combat introduces a layer of unpredictability, the game's "Tricks" system provides enough agency to keep encounters feeling fair rather than purely luck-driven. If you enjoy tactical depth paired with a clean aesthetic, this is a solid choice, provided you don't mind the occasional performance hiccup during busier combat sequences.
