Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles is a Japanese action role-playing game. Based on a popular tabletop RPG, this sequel to 2016's Anima: Gate of Memories tells the same story from another character's perspective. Playing as the enigmatic Nameless, you'll battle enemies and build your power as you struggle to prevent an ancient evil from rising again.

As an action RPG, Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles features a combat system that calls to mind a range of other action games, such as the Devil May Cry series. You'll need to mix ranged and close-quarter attacks to take down your foes while dodging to avoid their attacks. You'll also need to use your platform-jumping and puzzle-solving skills to make your way through the world.

The other side of the story

If you haven't played the first Anima game, some of the fine points of this game's storyline may escape you. If you have played the first game, you'll recognize many of the locations and enemies you encounter in this one, which might make the game feel a little repetitive. However, you'll appreciate the nods to the original game's story more.

Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles offers a challenging level of difficulty. The first battle offers some hints on how to beat enemies, but really mastering the combat system will take some practice. The wide-open setting can be daunting at first, too, but patient exploration is rewarded.

A worthy sequel for fans

Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles features an intriguing story whose anti-hero protagonist makes an interesting contrast to the heroes of the original. Learning the system takes practice, and the story will be most rewarding to fans of the first game. If you enjoyed the original Anima: Gate of Memories, check out The Nameless Chronicles.
