Action-adventure game for PC
Tochi II: Senshi is a free action title made by an indie developer SN-Studio. It is a retro adventure title for the Playdate retro gaming handheld. It is the sequel to the first Tochi game released by the same group, bringing back its distinct single-try gameplay mechanic.
Joining the likes of Dragon Hunt Adventure and Escape From Complex, Tochi II: Senshi joins the portable retro handheld's ever-growing list of games. This time around, it offers more action compared to the usual casual or platforming title choices for those who are looking for something fast-paced and engaging.
Escaping Senshi
The first Tochi was a pretty straightforward dungeon crawler-like action game. You're thrust into an unknown location, and you defeat every single enemy to escape, with the condition that you had to do it in one go. Tochi II: Senshi doesn't stray from its predecessor's formula, and instead builds upon the already solid experience, with the same fun combat and an actual story this time around.
The game takes place in the titular Senshi, once home to the Knights of Senshi, but has since been abandoned and is now just filled with traps and monsters. Together with your mysterious companion named Amori, while dealing with every danger that comes your way. Each area features various items that can help you battle enemies as you look for the necessary keys to the way out.
The game also carries over the one-try mechanic from its predecessor here. You will be given five lives in order to defeat everyone and escape. Failure to do so will result in a game over, and you will have to start all over again. Regardless, the whole experience and gameplay is rather short. Good thing the developer already seems to be working on a third entry to the series.
A nice sequel
In summary, if you like the first Tochi game, Tochi II: Senshi is a great sequel and is just as much fun. It looks nice, the combat is engaging, and the one-try mechanic makes its return here, forcing you to play smart and think about your moves. The whole experience is just as short, though, but a third game is already in the works.
