Wander and ponder in this free indie game
Thinkers And Wanderers is a free adventure video game wherein you can explore in comfort. Developed by Daum Park—a.k.a. “itsNemo”—this cute indie game lets you play as a simple little blob who can interact with other blobs inside a blank white world. All you have to do is explore and let your curiosity take over. This game was made for the Extra Credits Game Jam #6 with the theme “take care.”
Be the explorer you are
Thinkers And Wanderers starts you off with a nice quote: “Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still.” Then, you appear as a white smiling little blob with two feet inside a world full of white. The controls will display on the screen: WASD to walk, E to interact, and R to speak. Slowly, your surroundings will start to fill with differently-colored blobs.
Interacting with them will reveal various kinds of messages. From greetings and questions to sad thoughts and fun little hints about this world, you’ll find yourself constantly going up to another blob to talk. On the top-left corner of your screen is a pair of X-axis and Y-axis, displaying numbers as you walk around. This is basically your map—and there are some fun blobs to discover at certain coordinates.
The whole atmosphere of this game is relaxation and the excitement of discovery. It’s practically an open-world environment and you have dozens upon dozens of people to talk to. The blobs can make you feel like you’re actually playing online with other people, but the lack of a live chat despite your ability to type out thoughts doesn’t make their virtual companionship any less meaningful. Even though their dialogue doesn’t cycle, you still won’t feel lonely.
A different kind of comfort
All in all, Thinkers And Wanderers is a great social experiment that delves into our inquisitive nature. Despite the minimalistic graphics, the game never feels limiting at all and it’s one that you may open from time to time or spend hours trying to traverse completely. If you like adventures with some social interactions and exploration, then this is a highly recommended title.
