Vibrant 3D platforming adventure game

PaperKlay is a premium adventure game for PC developed by WhyKev. It's a 3D open-world platformer starring a quirky pair as they go on a grand escapade to loot and collect all kinds of trinkets and materials. They will explore various locations and encounter platforming challenges they need to overcome.

Comparable to games like Haste or Wavetale, PaperKlay thrusts players into a vast world filled with wonder and the unknown for them to explore and discover. Newcomers can check out a demo to get a sense of what the gameplay will be like in the full version of the game.

Tactile world

PaperKlay is a 3D platformer in the same vein as classic Mario 64, with collectathon mechanics for its gameplay, and takes place in a vast open world with distinct biomes. It centers around the clucky pairing of Chick and Nugget, as they go on an exciting adventure to recover their lost eggs and grab any and everything they can get their hands(wings) on.

What makes PaperKlay stand out from its contemporaries is its tactile and creative approach to world-building and interactivity. The game takes place in a world made of paper, cardboard, and clay, all of which you can interact with by rotating and unfolding your surroundings to reveal all kinds of surprises. Glide, dive, and even punch your way through various puzzles and platforming challenges.

Along the way, you'll meet a wide cast of fully voiced characters who you will interact and talk to. All that said, the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. The shallow exploration combined with the lack of any meaningful things to do results in a visually nice but forgettable experience, which is a shame given its interesting ideas and mechanics.

Potential for something more

All in all, PaperKlay is a charming adventure that any fan of 3D platforming games will like and enjoy playing. Its creative approach to interactions is fun and a visual delight to witness. Beyond that, though, there isn't much to do and experience in the game. Hopefully, future updates will address this and add more content. Nevertheless, this one is worth checking out.
