There Is No Light is a premium action game for PC from developer Zelart. It is an isometric A-RPG featuring stunning pixel art and fast-paced combat. In it, players take control of a hero who battles through countless monsters and epic bosses in the Underworld to save his child.

Similar to Hades, There Is No Light also employs supernatural themes for its story and gameplay. Where Hades draws from Greek mythology, this one takes inspiration from popular horror fiction novels of the last century. The vivid imagery takes form in the game's otherworldly creatures and monsters.

To hell and back

There Is No Light takes place in a world struck by a catastrophe. What remains of mankind has created an underground society, Central Station, seated in religion, worshiping The Great Hand. Their new god would come from behind the Sanctuary to take away chosen newborns for unknown purposes. You are The Hero who journeys to open the gates of hell to save your child who was spirited away.

Explore a vast pixel world that is home to over 70 types of enemies and bosses that were inspired by some of the twisted machinations from the works of H.P. Lovecraft. There are four unique weapons available to you with unique skill trees to let you adjust your playstyle depending on the foe and figure out the most effective combination against each one.

The game features a non-linear narrative that boasts branching story paths. Your character’s decisions help shape and move events in various ways through a Karma System. However, despite the robust mechanics it has in place, the actual combat feels repetitive and gets dull fairly quickly. Enemy attacks become predictable and you'll notice the same patterns after a while, making the game devoid of challenges later on.

Breezing through the heat

All in all, There Is No Light is a fun action-adventure game with a beautifully created pixel world. The supernatural horror theme it has going is interesting and there are plenty of different monsters to face. The combat does taper off and gets stale after a while. Nevertheless, this one is worth a try for the experience and visuals alone.
