The Walking Dead Onslaught is the official game of The Walking Dead franchise. First published as a comic book in 2003, the TV series is still ongoing up until now. The TV series and comics garnered a huge fanbase that a lot of other media avenue has been made for it. Players can take on the role of their favorite The Walking Dead character beside Deputy Rick Grimes. This includes Daryl Dixon, Queen Carol Peletier, and Michonne. As mentioned, the game is showcased in virtual reality providing you a close encounter with both your companions and enemies. It comes with a very minimalist user interface with the health bar placed on the arm, and the firearm ammunition located beside the gun. 

Players must use their pair of wireless controllers to hit or shoot Walkers. They have to find melee and ranged weapons, as well as explosives across the game environment. The screen turns bloody red if they got scratched or bitten by the Walkers. One of the game’s most iconic feature is the visceral combat experience and enemy dismemberment system. Fans can expect very bloody and brutal executions against the Walkers. The Walkers can be dismembered but in a realistic manner. Players can remove Walker limbs, inflict deep wounds and impale them with sharp weapons.

The physics system also affects the player movement. Sometimes the melee weapon might get stuck after a successful katana or machete slash. Players may also experience resistance when pulling out their weapons from an enemy. There is also a grappling system that allows tactical maneuvers. This way players can shove off Walkers which grabs them. They can also restrain Walkers for them to deliver fatal strikes or precise aim.
