The Procession to Calvary: A Renaissance Adventure Game
The Procession to Calvary is a point-and-click adventure game developed by Joe Richardson. The game takes players on a journey through a beautifully detailed landscape, constructed from hundreds of Renaissance paintings. The game's story follows the protagonist, who has been tasked with finding the tyrant Heavenly Peter, who has escaped from their clutches.
Players will have to steal a ship, feed a donkey, compete in a talent contest, assist an inept street magician, sing, dance, play the (magic?) flute, poke a man's face, hunt for treasure, and have a chat with Our Lord God Almighty. The game features a traditional point-and-click interface, with a 'verb coin' interaction menu and a simple inventory from which players can drag and drop their hoarded items.
The Procession to Calvary is set in the same world as Four Last Things, but its story can be played independently. The game's style of humor is reminiscent of the surreal, anarchic comedy of Monty Python, and the gags about butts are taken very seriously. While some of the jokes may be ridiculous, the puzzles make perfect sense and adhere to a consistent internal logic.
