Difficulty options let players fine-tune the tension, while the risk of losing characters keeps every supply run and moral choice meaningful. However, it can be repetitive. 

Cooperative play supports up to four players online, offering shared combat, looting, and resource management. While the host controls base progression, guests retain earned gear and experience. There's no split-screen mode, but online joining is smooth and hassle-free. Teamwork matters, especially during sieges or large infestations. Though visuals are modest, updated lighting and a new map help freshen things up. The strong sound design enhances immersion. However, the visuals feel dated. 

This version introduces Providence Ridge, a rugged logging town offering diverse terrain and challenges. It also has Heartland DLC, Daybreak DLC, and all others now available to all players. Cross-play is also applied, allowing players to play with each other with no holds barred.
