Serious Survivors is a free-to-play action game for PC developed by Entropy Surfers. It is a first-person boomer shooter featuring retro graphics and roguelike mechanics for its gameplay. Players will take on hordes of demonic monsters that have escaped hell. They must shoot their way through the onslaught and survive to the end. 

Taking inspiration from the cult classic Serious Sam series, combined with roguelike elements from the modern classic Vampire Survivors, Serious Survivors manages to offer an experience that is both familiar and fresh. Its arcade-like approach to gameplay makes it ideal for quick pick-up-and-play sessions. 

Genre-defining classics 

Serious Sam is a classic FPS series that helped define the arena shooter subgenre and still has a cult following to this day, way before boomer shooters even became a thing. Then there's Vampire Survivors, a deceptively simple roguelike bullet hell action experience with a satisfying gameplay loop. Enter Serious Survivors, which, if its name was not obvious enough, is a mash-up of these two classics.

In the game, demons from hell have invaded the human realm, and it's up to you to load up and banish them into oblivion one satisfyingly brutal blast at a time. You start with a pistol and gradually work your way through a diverse arsenal of weapons, ranging from shotguns to miniguns and even a particle disintegrator. Enemies range from measly cannon fodder to giant flesh-eating bosses. 

Level up and create unique builds with random perks that transform how you play with each run. Collect resources to unlock new weapons, perk options, and levels with unique environments. There are some things that need fixing, though, like a few missing sound assets and a lack of any tutorial, to name a few. Then again, Serious Survivors is completely free, so it's hard to complain. 

Seriously epic 

Put simply, Serious Survivors is a must-play game if you like arena shooters and Survivor-likes. It's a unique spin on the genre that draws inspiration from two already impressive classics to create something fun and thrilling. Despite the issues mentioned above, this is still definitely worth checking out. Not to mention, it's available for free, so there's really no reason not to.
