RECURSOR is a free action game for PC created by an indie developer named Wills Blackett aka schmoo. It's a 2D platformer that features pixel art graphics. In it, players will take control of a robot as they explore randomly generated levels and face enemies and various challenges.

Just like with Dead Cells or Ether Loop, RECURSOR features roguelite elements in its gameplay. Players will face challenges and enemies of ever-growing difficulty. They will be able to upgrade their robot with enhancements along the way to help them reach further on their next attempt.

Is it any good?

Inspired by the classic sci-fi films and anime of the 80s and 90s, RECURSOR is set inside a computer terminal that grants you the ability to control and monitor the titular RECURSOR robot. In it, you will explore and traverse randomly-generated labyrinthian levels. Along the way, you will be facing different types of enemies, as well as overcoming various challenges and obstacles that will stand in your way.

The game also employs some roguelite elements in its core gameplay. Each level grows in difficulty and complexity, with harder challenges and tougher enemies to face. You do get the chance to enhance your bot with a variety of upgrades to help you go further on your next attempt, though. All of this is presented in a stylish and fitting pixel art style and graphic design.

There is also a debug mode that will allow speedrunners to analyze every aspect of the game frame-by-frame as they attempt for the fastest runs possible in the game time trial mode. The controls could use a bit more tweaking, though, as some maneuvers feel sluggish and a little hard to pull off. Also, just be aware that it is still in active development.

A promising roguelite platformer

In conclusion, RECURSOR is a fun and challenging action-platformer that features nice pixel graphics and an interesting mech theme. The randomly-generated levels and the various possible upgrades available add to its replayability and will be a game that you will have hours of fun playing. The time trials are also a nice touch and will appeal to speedrunners. Recommended.
