Pixel Privateers is a roleplaying game from Re-Logic. It is a tactical action shooter game that will send your team of mercenaries on a quest in space to gather technology for your employer. However, with an entire galaxy to explore, you will meet many dangers of the cosmos.

As the name suggests, Pixel Privateers features pixel art. However, its environment art shoots for a bit more detail than the usual squat block-head characters. Moreover, the gameplay is mostly a numbers-heavy, real-time, party-based dungeon crawler. However, it offers too much loot that you will find yourself sorting through them every time. 

What is Pixel Privateers?

If you are a fan of Diablo, then Pixel Privateers will be familiar. However, rather than an open map, you select away your missions from your spaceships. As mentioned, you will explore space. In between missions, you will manage your resources to fund both your upgrades and survival. In every mission you complete, you will earn loot that you can use for both offensive and defensive boosts.

The gameplay will have you control your squad individually in the tactical mode. Here, you will issue an order and have them carry it out. You can also control your squad as one and direct them all at once. The game comes with an array of difficulty settings. With this, you can adjust the setting to enjoy the missions casually, or you can challenge yourself in the hardcore mode.

As mentioned, this RPG is a shoot 'n loot game and rewards you with various loot. However, not all loot given plays an important role for your cause. In fact, 95% of the loots you received have no use other than a bauble to sell. With this, you will sort ponderously through panel after panel to remove loots that only take up a slot in your inventory.

Is the game good?

Overall, Pixel Privateers is a solid sci-fi game that you can play. It has action-packed gameplay that is completely different from other pixel space games. However, it provides too much loot, requiring a lot of time for item management. What makes it worse is the fact that the control system and menus take some learning. Players will also find the gameplay a little repetitive.
