Here you join your comrades in defending or attacking a planet, with robot battles occurring on the ground, in the sky, and even in space.

With 3D-rendered models and environments, plus the variety of mobile suits available, MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM BATTLE OPERATION 2 is a treat for fans. It does, however, have its own learning curve that makes it feel janky for newcomers. It’s quite similar to GUNDAM EVOLUTION.

This is considered the most prominent among the different timelines of the franchise and contains a lot of iconic properties and designs. From the 1979 Mobile Suit Gundam series to the 2021 Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, most of the mechs in the timeline make an appearance in this game.

It supports global matchmaking with up to 6 vs 6 battles. These are on massive sets that include epic space battles. More importantly, there’s a strategic aspect to the game since fighting is not limited to the player pilots. It includes Infantry Combat, which lets your pilot leave the mech to perform certain tasks as call support artillery or sabotage enemy installations in maneuvers becomes impossible with massive Gundams.

The challenge in this game is that you feel the weight and clunkiness. This makes the experience feel restrictive or slow. However, a few games in and you’ll start appreciating its unique mechanics and how it adds to the immersion. Additionally, the barebones tutorial adds to the game being inaccessible to newcomers. It only shares the game basics, and the rest is up to the player to discover.

Hard to get into, easy to enjoy

The main challenge with MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM BATTLE OPERATION 2 is in onboarding new players. Most Gundam games have adapted slow, clunky movements to mimic piloting massive robots. However, its tutorial leaves a lot of details, which forces new players to learn as they go along.
