Mahokenshi is a turn-based tactics card game in which the player must build their deck strategically in order to give themselves the best chance of being victorious in any given battle. The terrain itself factors into these decisions, as different terrain offers different advantages, so the choice of cards is made all the more important.

While Mahokenshi is a card game, it is not a digital recreation of a traditional card game like 29 Card Game, but more like Digimon Card Game. That being said, Mahokenshi features far more impressive visuals than either of those games.

The story of Mahokenshi has the player working to protect the Celestial Islands from powerful opponents. The player must choose from one of four houses, each offering different bonuses to certain playstyles. This allows players to tailor their gameplay experience by choosing the house that best suits their style. There are also over 200 cards to collect and build a deck from.

A detailed world to explore

While Mahokenshi is a card game at its core, there is a large world for the player to explore. This game world is presented in the form of a fully-rendered 3D map broken into hexagonal tiles. When moving around the world, the player can move from one tile to another only, making movement options clear.

Visually impressive

Despite being a card game, the visuals that Mahokenshi offers are comparable to dungeon crawlers or top-down RPGs. The card game element will appeal to fans of the genre, but the graphical element may be a point of interest for players who would not normally have considered a card game. There is also a good deal of variety in the cards and houses, adding to the game's replayability.
