A descent into chaos

Hatred is an isometric action shooter that puts you in the role of a cold-blooded antagonist. Developed by Destructive Creations, you will mercilessly eliminate humans, face armed forces, and engage in relentless violence.

In Hatred, you’re filled with a desire for Armageddon, you see your gun as the only thing that matters. You venture into the outskirts of New York, on a mission to ruthlessly eliminate all humans. There are no rules, no compassion, and no mercy. As the player, you become the arbiter of life and death and thereby hold full control over the lives of those deemed worthless.

Well, this game is certainly dark

With its bleak monochrome palette splashed with bursts of crimson, Hatred leans heavily into its unapologetically violent premise. The gameplay revolves around navigating urban and rural environments, using twin-stick shooting mechanics to take out civilians and armed police. Movement and aiming are tight and responsive, with firefights demanding constant awareness of cover and positioning. However, it offers a repetitive gameplay loop.

The health regeneration system ties directly into executions, forcing players into close-range encounters for survival. Mission objectives remain simple: cause destruction, survive police waves, but the escalating difficulty ensures the tension never drops. It’s a deliberately polarizing game that trades narrative complexity for relentless action. For some, the never-ending violence and lack of meaning and goal behind it can be too dark.

Hatred’s story is intentionally minimalistic. The nameless protagonist offers no emotional arc, no redemptive qualities, and no complexity beyond a singular desire for carnage. The stark, high-contrast black-and-white visuals amplify the oppressive mood, while the ambient soundscape heightens the sense of dread. This stripped-down storytelling is part of the game’s design philosophy, though it leaves little for narrative-driven players to engage with.

Violence as the core experience

Hatred is a game that thrives on its bleakness, offering players an unflinching descent into chaos with no moral compass or deeper purpose. Its striking visuals, tense gunplay, and relentless pacing create a uniquely oppressive atmosphere. However, its repetitive missions, lack of narrative depth, and polarizing violence mean it appeals only to players seeking raw, unapologetic action rather than meaningful storytelling or variety.
