Single-player roguelike hack-and-slash RPG
Getsu Fuma Den: Undying Moon is an intense single-player hack-and-slash RPG that can be compared to other platforms like Iron Blade: Medieval Legends regarding intense levels of combat. The use of traditional Japanese art, as well as the presence of hand-drawn elements, both serve to differentiate this game from its more generic counterparts.
Getsu Fuma Den: Undying Moon tells the story of an ancient demon named Ryokutsuki who has returned after 1,000 years of banishment. The player will take on the role of a member of the Getsu clan, a group that has protected civilization from the underworld and the cataclysms that Roykutsuki would certainly cause.
Side-scrolling mayhem
The side-scrolling nature of this game has been combined with brutal hack-and-slash techniques. Players can use traditional melee weapons, as well as more advanced items, such as guns and specialty items known as "Demonslayers."
Excellent for resource crafting
There is also a fair amount of skill and weapon crafting associated with this game, a nice touch for those who happen to be fans of resource farming. As bosses are defeated, new items will be unlocked. These can be modified through the use of an in-game menu.
A classic touch
Although the graphics are quite refined, the developers have chosen to include a handful of classic 2D side-scrolling mainstays. Two examples include a health bar at the top of the screen, as well as smaller bars located atop each enemy.
Some elements found throughout Getsu Fuma Den: Undying Moon (such as the types of attacks) appear to be reminiscent of classic RPGs, such as the Ninja Gaiden Master Collection. The use of art that has been influenced by the Japanese Ukiyo-E movement represents a substantial break from the norm in terms of overall ambiance and gameplay.
