Phantom Abyss is a premium action game made by Team WIBY for PC. It's a first-person multiplayer adventure wherein players are tasked with retrieving sacred relics hidden inside temples. Each one houses multiple chambers which are filled with deadly traps and obstacles.

The concept behind Phantom Abyss is quite similar to that of Tomb Raider or the Uncharted series in the sense that players delve into dangerous locations in search of hidden treasure. What makes it different is its first-person perspective gameplay, multiplayer aspect, and its more vibrant and colorful art style.

What is it about?

Phantom Abyss is a first-person temple runner with a much more complex game design. It's also an asynchronous online multiplayer title, making gameplay more engaging and interactive. In it, you and a couple of players are tasked with seeking out sacred relics that are hidden inside temples ridden with deadly traps and obstacles. On top of that, there will be guardians spread throughout that will chase and seek you out.

Phantom Abyss also comes with a unique catch. You will only get one attempt with each temple. You will have to decide whether you'll risk going for the biggest treasure or settle for something lesser and risk never stepping foot inside that particular place again. You can study and learn from the phantom runs of other players to help you get further than they did.

Along the way, you will also get the chance to make offerings to the gods to gain bonuses and additional skills. You even get to unlock whips that will either provide a blessing or curse in each run. In practice, though, the overall experience is hampered with poor game performance and some questionable level design make playing it more of a chore than a challenge worth taking on.

Abysmal optimization

In conclusion, Phantom Abyss actually has an interesting nice premise to it. It's basically Temple Run on steroids, but its execution leaves a lot to be desired. Poor optimizations result in rather inconsistent frame rates and general performance. Some levels also feel poorly designed. This is a good game worth checking out once some of these things get fleshed out.
