FOUNTAINS is a role-playing game rendered in 2D. Developed by John Pywell for PC, this Metroidvania title focuses on the explorer’s adventures through a maze-like expanse while trying to master high-skilled combat to unravel the secrets surrounding the ancient, interconnected world.

Falling under the souls-like genre, FOUNTAINS offers challenging nonlinear gameplay that requires precise timing and stamina management, keeping it challenging and open to multiple endings. The game also features hack-and-slash mechanics and interactive fiction, allowing players to engage in action-packed combat and make their own choices.  

Set in an open world, FOUNTAINS is one massive dungeon. Players can obtain functional and valuable items, upgrade them, and unlock new areas. The game features an online messaging system to assist players, but the permadeath mechanic adds frustration while increasing the overall stakes and difficulty.
