Journey into reality

Based on the famous traditional tale of the same name, Digital Domain’s Monkey King is a retelling in a stylised cartoon style. Viewers use their virtual reality headset to experience the story book, moving their heads to change perspective. The story is comprised of three separate chapters with the combined experience lasting around 30 minutes total. While the story is told well and the overall aesthetic is fine, the question is whether or not the purchase is worth something which can be viewed on YouTube in its completion. The "interactive" elements do not add anything beyond a single static camera and not nearly enough for a second viewing. Fans of story-focused indie experiences may find Digital Domain’s Monkey King enjoyable, but the single half an hour of content should be made aware to everyone considering the title.
