Devil May Cry 4
The devil hunter is back with a new combat system
Fortune, Blood And Death
Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition is a 3D spectacle fighter, where you walk around and cut your way through countless foes with style. It casts you as Nero, rather than Dante, the typical series protagonist, venturing to the Gothic town of Fortuna. It is here that Dante appears, alongside monsters and demons, and it is up to Nero, with his own dark powers, to find out why.
The game is beautiful and easy to play, with a unique twist on the "Devil Trigger" mechanic that allows you to temporarily become much more powerful. There are other playable characters beyond Nero, too: Lady from 3 is playable for the first time here. Understanding who these people are and why they're playable though, as well as the story in general, does require some back knowledge of the rest of the series.
Overall, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition is a solid iteration on an excellent sequel to the previous Devil May Cry games. Those who haven't played previous games in the series might prefer starting with a previous entry in the series, but 4 is competently-designed and stylish no matter how you slice it, and those who are already familiar with the series will probably love it.
