The Dead Sky Mod is a free-to-use game utility from Susel. Generally, this ramps up the difficulty level for the 2008 survival game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky. It has modifications affecting the visibility because of the darker tone and mood, plus reworked game mechanics.

A darker total conversion project

The most noticeable difference from Dead Sky Mod is that it makes the game even darker and bleaker. It doesn’t add anything new to the story, but it makes your playthrough significantly more difficult. For one, the AI for the enemies has been updated, making them more relentless and, in some instances, more creative in their attempts to take you down.

Since the mod is based on an older Clear Sky mod, the Old Good Stalker Mod (OGSM), expect a number of extra locations thrown in for additional exploration and action. Unfortunately, it fails to include minor features that helped make OGSM a classic among modding circles. For example, it allows players to loot armor for dead bodies in the game—something the vanilla game and this mod don’t have.

Lastly, while it also fixes most bugs from the base game, it comes with its own problems. While it has the option to change voice language between English, Polish, and Russian, it doesn’t come with subtitles, which seems like a dealbreaker for people looking for an immersive experience by using the native Russian audio with English subtitles. Other issues are minor, excusable bugs on animation and textures.

Overhaul your Clear Sky experience

Clear Sky already has some notoriety among the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. It has been tagged as being more difficult, although other players credit it to the different game mechanics. With Dead Sky Mod, this gameplay experience is about to get a lot harder. Experience new locations and face more difficult opponents. It has minor setbacks to it, but it remains a playable total conversion experience.
