Developed by Team NINJA and KOEI TECMO, this action-fighter offers a high‐octane 3D fighting experience built on the series' signature “rock‑paper‑scissors” style of strikes, throws, and holds.  

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round: Core Fighters expands on the previous DOA5 versions with the largest roster in the series’ history, with 34 fighters, plus numerous costumes, hairstyles, and stages. The core gameplay is accessible, yet underneath lies enough depth for veterans to master counter‑timing, holds, juggles, and stage hazards. 

Fast‑paced and an accessible DOA 

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round: Core Fighters' mechanics include counter holds that reverse throws, interactive environments where you can knock opponents off edges or into hazards, and a tag team mode that adds strategic variety. While many systems are inherited from previous entries, the polish is high, and the parry/hold system remains among the more tactical in the genre. However, players are discontented with the minimal upgrades. 

Story mode in Last Round delivers a cinematic‑style narrative tying together characters’ motivations and adding cutscenes between fights. However, most players agree the story is serviceable rather than standout — it exists to frame the fights, not to deliver deep drama. For fans of the franchise lore, it offers callbacks and tidy resolution, but newcomers may find the plot confusing or minimal. 

Visually, Last Round shines on featuring detailed character models, expressive animations, and vibrant stages. The “Soft Engine” on console versions enhances skin and hair physics, contributing to the polished presentation. That said, the visuals do not push cutting‑edge boundaries, and for some players, the game’s mature, sexualized character design detracts from the experience. Moreover, the limited content and locked characters make this version barebones.
