Chalice of Highland is a premium action game for PC by developer RetroValou. It is a retro 2D platforming adventure inspired by classic Gameboy visuals. It centers around a brave young bird on a quest to recover a precious artifact while facing all kinds of challenges and enemies. A demo is available to get a preview of the gameplay. 

Brave avian hero 

In the game, you guide a young bird on a grand mission to recover the titular Chalice of Highland. He will be delving into six dungeons filled with dangers equipped with his sword to battle enemies and flying ability to overcome traps and platforming challenges. Defeat seven tough bosses to collect a piece of the chalice that each one carries. 

There are also unique dream sequences that provide a peek into the hero's backstory, as well as the secrets of the mysterious land of Highland. You can even change the screen's aspect ratio and apply color filters for a more authentic "Gameboy" look. Now, as of this writing, there are still a few months left before its expected September 2025 release, so you will have to wait to experience the full game. 

Charming ode to the Gameboy 

All in all, Chalice of Highland is a charming homage to the Gameboy that impresses with its retro visuals and classic gameplay. The various graphical options are also a nice touch to further tweak the experience to your liking. Keep this on your radar and dive right in when it officially comes out.
