Bonfire Barrage is a premium action game for PC developed by Corey Shillingford. It's a bullet hell adventure that features fantasy themes and roguelike elements in its gameplay. In it, players assume the role of a fire spirit trying to fend off attacks from waves of shadow enemies appearing from the darkness of night in the forest.

Drawing inspiration from the game Seraph's Last Stand, Bonfire Barrage offers a thrilling action roguelike experience in a more compact package wherein players have nowhere to run and must fight to survive. A demo version is also available for newcomers to check out.

In the dark of night

Bonfire Barrage is a bullet hell roguelike wherein you play as a bonfire spirit that appears at campfire sites and must protect campers in slumber from the shadow creatures that come out at night. Each run offers a 30-minute challenge wherein you must employ all your fire abilities to defeat incoming enemy waves, defeat bosses at the end, and survive through to the end.

There are five characters to choose from, and each one boasts a unique set of powers and abilities to suit different play styles. One fires giant flames that deal high damage, while another unleashes a barrage of fast attacks to overwhelm enemies. As you level up, you will get to choose from upgrade options to boost your powers. Experiment with different character builds to find one you like.

When you max out a specific upgrade, you can evolve to a higher rank and unlock a new upgrade path. There is no meta progression, and you'll have to start over again when you die, resulting in a more arcade-like, pick-up-and-play experience. All that said, the game is a rather limited affair, with only a single mode and not much else in the way of content.

Playing with fire

If you played Seraph's Last Stand and were left wanting more of the same, Bonefire Barrage is a solid alternative that offers a similar experience but with nicer visuals. It's a no-frill bullet hell experience with unique characters to choose from, challenging gameplay, and roguelike elements.
