A fun survival shooter experience
Black Gunner Wukong is a premium action game from Seal where you take charge of the Monkey King on an unusual mission. This survival experience tasks you with guiding Wukong into a U.S. military base in an attempt to rescue his master. Ride his Nimbus Cloud and unlock his more powerful forms as you fight against the army
Its full 3D graphics, intuitive controls, and volume of references make Black Gunner Wukong an enjoyable roguelike that’s absolutely worth the price. Its mix of mythology and comedy makes it even more enjoyable, slightly reminiscent of POSTAL plus Risk of Rain 2.
Guide the Monkey King to a military base
As mentioned, Black Gunner Wukong has a pretty straightforward storyline. The US military has abducted Wukong’s master and it is up to him to rescue his teacher and bring him back to safety. To do this, players must guide the Monkey King into a US military camp, defeat the soldiers, and retrieve the master. This premise makes for replayable break-in attempts, letting you cause havoc as you see it.
With its full 3D graphics, you get to appreciate the landscape. The overall stage concept is the same in progression, although details vary. A fun treat for those familiar with the source is that his powers are mostly unlockable in this game. Ride your cloud, summon clones, and transform into more fearsome forms. Additionally, Wukong can have as many as three heads, six arms, and even wield six big guns.
It is simple and fun to play, granted. However, this also means that it’s not intended for players looking for depth. Aside from the Monkey King and his Master, there are no other characters worth your time and attention. Similarly, aside from his powers, there are no other unlockables in the game. The overall mission, set designs, and playable characters remain the same throughout.
A warm, enjoyable experience
Throwing the Monkey King in the modern world is a good thought experiment, and Black Gunner Wukong does a great job with it. By keeping the game simple in its premise and gameplay, it makes the game replayable and utterly enjoyable for people looking for a casual moment where they don’t think about anything but wreaking havoc. For its price, it’s a definite must-try.
