Asgard's Fall — Viking Survivors is a  Norse mythology-based action game, made by the indie developer Soulpotion for PC. It is a Survivors-inspired, roguelike title where players set out on an epic journey fighting against hordes of enemy factions. 

Asgard's Fall — Viking Survivors delivers a combat-filled playthrough, fusing aspects of hack-and-slash and top-down shooter mechanics. This Soulslike title set in the medieval world is illustrated in pixel graphics, blending dark fantasy and mythology, providing an old-school-style experience in an imaginative world.

Set out across the Nine Realms 

In Asgard's Fall — Viking Survivors, two playable characters are available: The huntress and the warrior, each possessing distinct abilities advantageous in combat, allowing you to choose the playstyle that suits you best. The huntress specializes in ranged skills and attacks, making her the best for taking down enemies from a distance. On the other hand, the warrior excels in melee combat with his close-range attacks. 

Once you’ve chosen a hero, embark on a faithful journey to the legendary Nine Realms, which includes Midgard, the realm of humankind, and Muspelheim, the realm of the fiery giants. Explore these treacherous realms filled with mythical creatures and utilize the heroes’ abilities to eliminate them. Then, unlock more powerful skills or bring out the synergetic effects of fused abilities to face progressively challenging stages. 

The game features a well-structured ability attribute system, allowing you to pick specific skills that fit your playstyle; a unique progression system called the Web of Wyrd, enabling you to weave knots to strengthen your hero; and a meta-progression system, which lets you unlock Warpaint runes to amplify their abilities. However, the only drawback to this game is its lack of optimization. 

Asgard Fall update

The Asgard's Fall update focuses on quality-of-life improvements, balancing, and bug fixes. The developers added a controls menu, confirmation popups, and tooltips. They adjusted movement speed, defensive stats, and Warpaint drop rates. Hero XP requirements and enemy scaling were also reduced.

The update includes specific balance changes for several abilities and addresses various bugs, such as disappearing Warpaints, memory leaks, and broken cooldowns. The developers temporarily removed the pigment inventory screen and Muspelheim’s Fire Rain. The patch also prepares save files for the upcoming Steam Cloud Save functionality.

Action-packed Viking experience 

Asgard's Fall — Viking Survivors offers an action-packed experience with its engaging combat mechanics and immersive world inspired by Norse mythology. Its blend of well-thought-out systems, including the ability attribute system and the Web of Wyrd progression, gives players room to adapt to their preferred playstyle. However, its lack of optimization may hinder the experience for some. Despite this, it remains an enjoyable preview of the actual game.
