ALONE... has been compared to the seemingly impossible to complete Flappy Bird, which is a bit unfair. The gameplay is challenging and it definitely has the 'just-one-more-try feel' to it, but ALONE... is not another flash-in-the-pan gimmick.

Tough at the to

Confusingly, the levels in ALONE... start at 'hard', and you will find it tough-going when you start playing this endless-runner/arcade style game. In ALONE..., you are in a spaceship (in space, of course) and you must navigate your way past the crumbling bits of rock as the world around you explodes.

The aim is to get as far as you can to unlock higher levels while the game gets ever faster. It's 2,000 meters to unlock the first level. While there are only four levels at the moment, it will likely take you so long to unlock each one that you won't have completed them all before new levels are released.

A bit twitchy

ALONE...'s controls are sensitive and twitchy by design and it took me a few tries to actually get anywhere. Initially I traveled further by not doing anything than by trying to move the spaceship. Once you understand the limits, it becomes much easier to navigate. That's not to say that you'll get anywhere fast as there are more objects coming at you even faster the further you get.

You move up and down by sliding your finger across the screen, but I found it much easier to play when I put my device on its side. You can also chose to invert the controls.

Arcade feel

The graphics in ALONE... are simple, but beautifully designed to recreate an arcade experience.

The developer clearly has a high level of attention to detail, given the well-crafted graphics and a soundtrack that perfectly complements the gameplay.

I'll just play it once more...

ALONE... is a super addictive, extremely challenging, but fun game and the good news is it won't make you want to throw your phone on the floor in frustration.
