9 Years of Shadows is a visually stunning side-scrolling Metroidvania that combines heartfelt storytelling with fast-paced action. Players take on the role of Europa, a determined warrior on a quest to restore color to a corrupted world. The result is a deeply atmospheric journey that balances combat, exploration, and music. 

Dynamic combat and elemental exploration 

Armed with a halberd and aided by her magical companion Apino, Europa battles dark creatures inside the colossal fortress of Talos. Elemental armors unlock traversal abilities like swimming, gliding, or digging, creating a fluid, engaging world to explore. Combat is fast and responsive, with clever mechanics like armor switching for tactical variety. 

The soundtrack of 9 Years of Shadows is exceptional, with contributions from Castlevania's Michiru Yamane and Metal Gear’s Norihiko Hibino. Music isn't just background—it's part of gameplay and healing. The only drawback is occasional pacing issues, particularly during backtracking, which can slow momentum. However, the world’s beauty and layered design make up for this.
