Physics-based ball-rolling puzzle game for PC
Polyball is a premium action release for PC by game developer Studio Monolith. It is a physics-based simulation title that is inspired by classic ball-rolling games. In it, players will take control of spherical objects as they explore various environments while solving puzzles and platforming challenges.
Just like Hamsterball or Rolled Out!, Polyball is a modern interpretation of classic titles like Marble Madness and Marble Blast, wherein players take on obstacle course-like levels of varying complexity and difficulty to test their problem-solving skills. It offers multiple game modes, as well as full controller support and multiplayer split-screen gameplay.
Ball-rolling games were some of the most popular options available to arcade gamers back in the day. They had players guide a ball through complex levels with various obstacles and a time limit to reach their goal. They haven't had much attention or development in recent years, but that status changes with the release of titles like Polyball, which serve as modern interpretations of those classic titles of decades past.
In this game, the perspective has changed from the classic top-down view to a third-person overhead angle for a more immersive experience. There are over 60 levels that each feature unique designs and environments. There are two main game modes in the form of battle and trails, as well as support for split-screen multiplayer, making it a nice option if you're looking for a party game.
You'll start out with a chrome-like sphere with a polygonal geometric design. The game features a robust customization system that lets you create your own from a variety of textures, shapes, and colors to choose from. There is a rather steep learning curve at the beginning, though, but you'll get the hang of it over time as you push through more levels.
If you've been pining for some ball-rolling action and missing the classic games that made this genre popular, you should check out Polyball. From its beautiful 3D graphics to the engaging gameplay and plenty of customization options, it's a modern interpretation that is worthy of praise. There are some learning difficulties at first, but you'll get over them soon enough. Recommended.
