Go chase monsters in Lichtenheim!
For a fun, family friendly game try Zootopia: Crime Files.
Hidden object games are hugely popular at the moment, for several reasons. They are simple enough that they can play on almost any device, they offer a challenge without being frantic and they also have that addictive allure of any puzzles. One of the latest games to enter the hidden object arena is Zootopia Crime Files: Hidden Object, which hilariously takes the cartoon movie Zootopia and mixes it with the crime solving theme seen in most HOG games.
This free game is a great way to kill time for kids and adults alike. It is based on the children’s movie Zootopia, about a city populated by animals, so as you can imagine the game is very light hearted and friendly. Fans of the movie will love seeing all the main characters here, with ZPD officers Judy Hopps and Nicke Wilde solving cases in their furry world. As the game says, you must restore ‘paw and order’ to Zootopia! The crime solving theme is huge in hidden object games, as it lends itself so well to solving real-world puzzles and searching for objects, or rather, clues. In Zootopia there is no upsetting murder or gore that you might see in CSI games, for example, so it’s kid-safe. This game has a few extra features to make it more than just clicking objects, such as special abilities, analyzing evidence and a fun original storyline. Naturally you also get to visit iconic locations from the movie, such as Savanna Central Station.
Zootopia Crime Files: Hidden object is not a terribly original game. Many hidden object fans will admit that once you’ve played one, you’ve played them all. You are presented with 2D scenes and told to spot objects from a list, clicking each one you find. Zootopia does have a few things to add, however, to spice things up. This is mostly seen through the special abilities, which you can unlock as the game progresses. Each one is based on an animal and changes the game up, for example slowing down time with the Sloth Slowdown. Solving the crimes is rewarding and the storyline progresses at a fun pace, always light-hearted and tongue-in-cheek. All of this is supported by excellent 2D artwork in keeping with the cutting edge 3D seen in the movie, plus above average sound quality for a hidden object game. The voice acting is especially great, drawing from the talent in the movie.
Zootopia Crime Files: Hidden Object is a great puzzle game and fans of the genre will enjoy it. Fans of the movie should likewise enjoy seeing these characters in a new adventure. The movie’s zany sense of humor is present in the game, plus it has some fun features that make it a bit different to other HOGs. The game is free and looks great, though watch out for in-app purchases. Overall, Zootopia’s entry into crime solving games is a pleasant remedy to those which try to be too gritty and dark.
