We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie is a single-player action game and the second installment in the beloved Katamari Damacy series. It is the official port and remastered version of the cult classic title, We Love Katamari. The game comes with a new mode that lets players be the "King'' himself and experience chapters from his childhood. Developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment, it’s available on PC and gaming consoles. 

Compared to the original We Love Katamari, We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie comes with updated graphics, as well as various gameplay enhancements to improve the overall experience. The in-game UI has been revamped for easier controls.  

A cult classic game 

Katamari Damacy first came out for a gaming console, and it became a surprise sleeper hit that was quickly followed by the We Love Katamari sequel. It brought the same oddly satisfying gameplay, introducing more game modes to players and refined gameplay mechanics. More than a decade later, a PC port and remastered version comes in the form of We Love Katamari REROLL+ Royal Reverie. 

This remastered version comes with redesigned graphics, looking at its best yet. It also introduces a revamped in-game UI that makes navigation and gameplay much better. Your main goal as Katamari is still the same, grow bigger and become a star, and the gameplay is still as thrilling as ever. Then, there's Royal Reverie, an additional game mode that lets you play as the King during your younger days, with five new challenges. There's even a new selfie mode to let you take photos as you roll around. Additionally, you can expect a good soundtrack in this game like its predecessor. The gameplay can get challenging as well with multiple tiers of difficulty for each level. 

Direct the Prince of All Cosmos 

At its core, the game retains the simple yet highly addictive gameplay loop that defines the series. Players control the Prince of All Cosmos, rolling a sticky ball or "Katamari" through various levels, picking up objects ranging from tiny thumbtacks to massive skyscrapers. The goal is to grow the Katamari to a specific size before time runs out. The thrill of collecting everyday objects and watching your Katamari grow from minuscule to colossal remains as satisfying as ever. 

What sets We Love Katamari apart from other games is its offbeat humor and creativity. Each level presents a unique objective, whether it’s rolling up a certain type of item (such as flowers or animals) or fulfilling requests from quirky characters. The game’s quirky personality is enhanced by the King of All Cosmos, whose humorous, often nonsensical dialogue adds to the surreal experience of players. 

The game also introduces quality-of-life improvements and new modes. In addition to Selfie Mode, it features Eternal Mode, which allows for relaxed gameplay without time constraints. Five fresh challenges, centered around the backstory of the young King of All Cosmos, have been added to the remaster, along with brand-new collectibles to roll up. Furthermore, objective indicators now appear as time runs low, eliminating the need to spend valuable seconds searching the map. However, despite its charm, the core gameplay loop of rolling up objects can feel repetitive over time.
