Warhaven is a free-to-play action game from NEXON that brings player-vs-player experience to the next level. This fighting game pits teams of players against each other. Play as a soldier, choose from a roster of unique characters, and fight for your glory. Set in a massive world with large, interactive elements, this is the medieval dream come true.

With a range of gameplay possibilities, plus weapons and armor designs that are visually appealing, Warhaven is a potentially addictive game. Unfortunately, it suffers from server and matchmaking issues. It feels like a massively multiplayer For Honor, or team-based Naraka: Bladepoint.

Plan and work together for victory

In Warhaven, you choose your fighter from a roster of characters, each having their unique designs, weapons, and abilities. There are six human Soldiers to choose from, and four Immortals — powerful beings born from mankind’s faith. Although the character class selection appears limited, the wide variety of roles and capabilities work well in diversifying every battle experience. It goes beyond basic medieval warfare by including magic and spells.

Built using Unreal Engine 4, the game’s graphics and animation works well. It works as it creates unique experiences across five game modes and five maps. From castle ruins to cathedrals, the maps are immersive as they are interactive. Create new pathways or use debris for defense. More importantly, the combat mechanic can be compared to some of the best. You can just guard and slash, or practice well-timed parries.

The main problem with the game, however, is its network. Players have reported long matchmaking times. Others are complaining about server optimization issues, with server lags being almost everywhere. Aside from these network-related problems, the gameplay can feel messy and clunky since it doesn’t have target locking, and most actions have extended cooldowns. This makes zerg rushing strategies awfully effective, undercutting the game’s strategic potential.

Engage in massive wars

The premise of Warhaven revolves around getting players that immersive warfare experience by being a singular participant in a large-scale event. Graphics and animation are on point, allowing you to experiment between Soldier and Immortal classes with ease. Even the environment can be used to your advantage. The main setback right now is its network optimization, which derails the gameplay experience.
