A collection of handy utilities for Windows
A free app for creating a bootable USB drive
Ventoy is a free, open‑source bootable USB creation utility tool that revolutionizes how you prepare bootable media for installing operating systems or running live tools. It is unlike traditional USB writers, which require you to format a drive and rewrite each ISO every time you want a new bootable image.
Ventoy lets you copy multiple ISO/WIM/IMG/VHD(x)/EFI files directly to a USB stick and boot them through a simple selection menu at startup. It supports a huge array of operating system installers, recovery tools, diagnostic utilities, and live environments under one unified interface.
The essence of Ventoy’s gameplay is drag‑and‑drop convenience: after initial setup of the USB drive, you don’t reformat it again, simply just copy new ISO files onto it like normal storage, and Ventoy presents them in a boot menu when you start your machine. This works with both Legacy BIOS and modern UEFI systems, including support for Secure Boot and persistence for some Linux distros.
This approach saves time and effort, especially for IT technicians, hobbyists, or anyone who often tests or installs multiple operating systems from one portable device. Ventoy even supports large files and a broad range of architectures, making it useful for Windows, Linux, Unix, Chromebook, virtualization images, and more. However, setting up requires technical knowledge, especially for safe boots and occasional compatibility issues after OS updates.
Ventoy continues to see active development, with recent releases such as version 1.1.10 addressing boot issues, expanding tested ISO support, and improving filesystem and platform compatibility. These updates include fixes for specific Linux distributions, Windows boot behavior, and added support for additional operating systems like AerynOS, along with extended language updates. The project also maintains a detailed changelog so users can track improvements and ensure their tools remain up to date.
This app isn’t designed for flashy visuals with its user interface, which is basic but functional, often presented as a simple GUI for installation, with the real presentation happening in the boot menu of the USB device itself. That menu lists your copied images and lets you choose which OS or utility to run. Still, many users celebrate this utility tool’s straightforward setup and multi‑ISO support.
Ventoy stands out as a powerful solution for anyone who constantly works with operating systems and bootable tools. Its drag-and-drop workflow eliminates repetitive USB formatting, making multi-ISO management fast and effortless. While its interface is simple and some technical know-how may be needed for compatibility and Secure Boot setup, its active updates, broad OS support, and time-saving design make it an excellent choice for technicians, tinkerers, and PC enthusiasts alike.
