The Red Lantern is a narrative survival game by Timberline Studio. The game centers around a young Musher and her five sled dogs. She had planned to travel to the Iditarod dog race but a series of strange events lead them to the middle of the Alaskan wilderness. The dark, heart-stopping moments are undercut with her humor. Each run-through of the game varies wildly from one another; the unexpected nature of Red Lantern gives you a sense of adventure, as you can never truly predict what can happen.

The Red Lantern follows a young Musher training for the Iditarod dog racing championship. But, this game was not designed with a linear ride-along tale. It is a 3D rogue-lite with hundreds of unique encounters. The game puts a strong emphasis on survival. So, you can expect the game delivers procedurally-generated content or a storyline dependent on your decisions. This makes TRL unique from other simulation survival games. 

What was an initially-exciting experience turned into a fight for you and your dogs' lives. You can choose how you interact with the environment: you can use the energy you have left to fend for yourself from wild bears or conserve it by laying low in the forest. The mechanics of the game are much like surviving in the real world. You have to adapt to your surroundings to overcome any obstacles that will come your way. 

The Red Lantern is a unique indie game that pushes your creativity and willingness to adapt. Survival is the central theme of the game, as the game does not offer other playable and non-playable characters to help you. The frightening experience is underlined by the Musher’s sense of humor, though. The Red Lantern is a dark yet entertaining experience to see how you will find your way back home.
