Twin-stick shooter game
The Lost and The Wicked is an action game from Isaac Torres that offers brutal gameplay. In this game, you play a survivor of a shipwreck who must fight swarms of enemies. However, your enemies get faster, stronger, and deadlier as you play longer.
The Lost and The Wicked is a twin-stick shooter game. The idea is to keep cycling through different weapons you've collected and use them to survive. There is no complexity in combat. However, what makes the game unique is that the game is also a stage-based roguelite, making each run a unique experience.
What is The Lost and The Wicked?
The Lost and The Wicked features a protagonist washed into a wicked world after a shipwreck. You have no memory of who you are, and you find the place where you are swarming with enemies. You will fight them to survive using a wide variety of weapons you collect. The catch, however, is that these opponents get faster, stronger, and deadlier.
To survive longer, you need to avoid getting caught in a bad spot reloading. As a help, you can dash. Moreover, the system is basic enough that anybody could jump in and start playing without any learning curve. There is also no complexity in the gameplay. To make up for it, the level design is a stage-based roguelite. With this, each run will be unique.
This action game has a tragic and dark story told via psychedelic horror set-pieces, otherworldly enemies, mini-game events, and despairing revelations. The entire plot line is told between each of the seven stages and culminating boss fights. However, you will find that the run time is a bit short so as to not drag the main plot points.
Is the game good?
Overall, The Lost and The Wicked is a good game if you are into hectic action shooting games. It is by no means revolutionary, but it does offer a whirlwind of unsettling a-ha moments. The gameplay is simple, although made more challenging by the roguelite level design and the fast movements of the enemies. Be warned, though. There are themes of genocide, drugs, and sexual violence in the story.
Pros
- Stage-based roguelite design
- Decent story and immersion
- Interactive cutescenes
Cons
- Don't have enough stage and unlock variety
- Basic gameplay
- Mature themes
