The Land of Pain is a cross between a horror game and a walking simulator. It also comes with puzzles that you need to solve to progress. Sadly, these puzzles are not that great. Making up for it is the graphics of the game, which are top-notch.

Escape The Land of Pain

The Land of Pain takes place in a woodland setting with various locales like sporadic homes, farms, and small buildings. However, as mentioned, this land is under duress as an evil threatens its residents. Your goal is to survive the horrors within and escape to the real world. To do so, you will explore its huge map and solve puzzles to get clues.

Gameplay-wise, it combines walking simulator mechanics with horror elements. Here, you will walk within the map and enter a couple of houses to gather clues. Note, however, that there is way too much backtracking in the game to get where you need to go. There are also too many locked doors, which you cannot unlock because the keys do not exist. Also, some puzzles do not provide needed information.

As for your opponent, there is nothing much besides the evil creature. Unlike other horror games, it does not appear out of nowhere as you will hear a creepy screeching before it attacks. Moreover, you can avoid it by closing all light sources. Hurting its horror campaign is the generic sounds and screams it uses. There is also no voice acting, which could have made the game better.

All in all, The Land of Pain is a game that horror fans can play. The game has a simple premise, typical of horror games. However, it dispenses all the small details of inventory items and puzzle-solving. Instead, it focuses on exploration and running away from scary creatures. However, its story is a little too short and only a few of its puzzles are actually great.
