A remake of the classic TMNT action game

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants is a reimagining of the beloved 2017 arcade title of the same name that promises more stages and boss battles to delight fans of the franchise. The game allows players to assume the roles of the four heroic turtles—Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael—as they battle their way through waves of enemies and face off against the nefarious Shredder.

While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants offers a nostalgic trip down memory lane with its classic beat-em-up action and iconic characters, it falls short of delivering a truly refreshing experience.

Dive back into the sewers

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants, players will find three new stages and six boss battles, offering fans of the original title a chance to explore new environments and confront fresh challenges. However, despite these additions, the gameplay mechanics can feel monotonous, with repetitive combat encounters that fail to innovate upon the formula established by its predecessors.

While the promise of local co-op for up to four players adds a social element to the experience, it does little to alleviate the tedium of mashing buttons to dispatch endless waves of enemies. Furthermore, the game's reliance on controller-based input limits accessibility, as it does not support keyboard or mouse controls, alienating potential players seeking a more flexible gaming experience.

In addition to all of these, the game’s overall duration is quite short and lacks a significant challenge that keeps players on their toes. However, the improved graphics do add some reprieve for fans who wants to better immerse themselves in the action. The implementation of a powerful Turtle Power attack also gives players a little boost as they take down larger enemy waves.

Falls short of expectations

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants offers a nostalgic trip for fans of the franchise, but it ultimately falls short of recapturing the magic of its original title. While the addition of new stages and boss battles provides some welcome variation, the game's repetitive gameplay mechanics and lack of innovation prevent it from standing out in a crowded market.
