Tangledeep is an indie early access roguelike RPG. Explore endless dungeons in a 16 bit world filled with treasure and a mysterious quest to the surface world.

Classic adventure

Tangledeep draws on classic RPGs from the SNES era, creating a charming look which hides a surprisingly deep combat and skills system. The game is primarily concerned with endless dungeon exploration with procedurally generated levels. Each level contains fairly standard enemies and loot, with a village hub for banking gold and healing. While the game is a roguelike and does contain permanent death (at least in one mode), it offers a number of options for taking the sting out of dying. Gold can be stored between characters, healing is plentiful and trees can be planted to generate monsters. The music is the best aspect of Tangledeep, a classic score which harks back to sweeping songs from Final Fantasy. For all the positive aspects of the game, it can be too easy and simplistic to be engaging for long periods of time. The developers are actively updating the game, however, so more challenge and variation may become available.

Taking shape

Tangledeep is a solid old school RPG with some roguelike elements. It has a deep skill and item system but lacks real difficulty and a full plot, which may be addressed in time.
