The difference is that here you’re managing a sports-oriented store, from contracts with suppliers to keeping shelves stocked. It’s a sandbox-style approach that combines the routine of day-to-day shopkeeping with the bigger picture of business growth.

Starting small, growing big

Sporting Goods Shop begins with a simple setup: a modest store, a few products, and the responsibility of making it all work. While there’s not much in the way of narrative, the progression is clear—you grow step by step by signing deals with well-known brands and steadily expanding your product line. The game gives you room to explore the basics of store management at your own pace.

Running the shop is where most of your time goes, and the mechanics reflect that. You’ll manage inventory, unpack shipments, and carefully arrange items on the shelves. Price setting isn’t just random; it depends on market trends and customer expectations. On top of stocking and selling, you’ll also handle smaller but essential details like cleaning, processing payments, and preventing theft. 

Beyond the solo play, you can invite friends to join in co-op mode, sharing responsibilities while handling larger customer flows. Growth is tied to hiring staff, expanding storage, and upgrading the store layout. Still, not everything feels polished. The visuals and animations come across as stiff and could use more refinement. Plus, it's still in Early Access, so ongoing updates are expected.

A work in progress

In its current form, Sporting Goods Shop offers a solid entry into the store management simulation space. It successfully combines the routine of daily shopkeeping with the long-term planning of business growth, whether you play alone or with friends. However, the presentation holds it back from feeling complete. With more refinement and updates, the game could become a stronger sandbox experience.
